EAGLE GROVE - Richard Lee Grandgeorge, the son of Charles and Velma (Norcross) Grandgeorge, was born on April 22, 1934, at his grandmother's home in Woolstock, Iowa. He was raised on a farm southwest of Webster City and educated in the Webster City area graduating from Webster City High School. Richard enlisted in the United States Army serving during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in October of 1955.
On August 8, 1958, Richard was united in marriage to Lorene Carlson at Trinity Lutheran Church in Webster City. They made their home and raised their family on a farm southwest of Webster City. He lived in the Webster City area for 68 years before moving to Eagle Grove for the last 11 years. Richard was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Webster City, the Moose Lodge 735 in Webster City and the American Legion Post in Eagle Grove. He enjoyed fishing, camping, dancing with his wife, playing cards and pool, vacationing with his family and reading his farm magazine occupied him for many hours. Richard's love for his grandchildren turned him into an avid sports fan traveling to the many, many sporting events to support his grandchildren.
Richard passed away on Thursday, April 18, 2013, at his home in Eagle Grove, at the age of 78 years. He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, Maynard Finch, Jack Hill, Jack Carlson and Marty Martin and a niece Lynette VanVleet. Richard is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Lorene of Eagle Grove; four daughters, Peggy (Larry) Lang of Pasco, WA, Sheila (Mike) Scott of Webster City, Beth Lawrence of Carlisle and Tina (Randy) Bailey of Humboldt; son, Kurt (April) Grandgeorge of West Richland, WA; nine grandchildren, Rob (Donna) Taylor of Tri Cities, WA, Stephanie (Laymon) Boschert of Tri Cities, WA, Blake Bailey of Livermore, Adam Lawrence of Ames, Sarah Scott of Webster City, Jarred Grandgeorge of West Richland, WA, Courtney Bailey of Humboldt, Tyler Grandgeorge of West Richland, WA and Zachary Scott of Webster City; two great-grandsons, Austin and Jackson Taylor of Tri Cities, WA; six step-grandchildren; four step great-grandchildren; four step great-great-granddaughters; two sisters, Charlotte Finch of Webster City and Phyllis Hill of Stanhope; brother-in-law, Leonard (Verla) Carlson of Webster City; sister-in-law, Loraine Martin of Carlisle and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, April 22, 2013, at Evangelical Lutheran Church in Eagle Grove at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Jason Cooper officiating. Visitation will be Sunday, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Foust Funeral Home, Eagle Grove. Burial will be in French Church Cemetery near Woolstock. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
