Roland J. Williams, the son of Chester and Ethel (McGowen) Williams, was born on August 17, 1927 in Corwith. He graduated from Corwith High School and was very proud to be part of the High School State Champion baseball team. He served in the Army Air Corps as an air traffic controller during the end of WWII. Roland was married to Svana Eiriksdottir and the couple taught ballroom dancing at the Arthur Murray Studio. The marriage was later dissolved. Roland farmed on his family farm in Corwith and later moved to Fort Dodge. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Hamilton in August of 1981. Roland was an active member of Life Underwriters Association and throughout the years he worked in the insurance business with Loyal Protective Life and Provident Mutual. He became the owner and operator of RJ Beverages. He later worked as manager for Bike and Fitness, circulation manager for the Des Moines Register and for Experience Works. Roland served on the Humboldt County Democratic Central Committee for several years. He had a passion for baseball and enjoyed coaching the little league and teener leagues in Fort Dodge. He was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife Dorothy Williams of Dakota City; his daughter Rosanette Lind of Fort Dodge, his son Stephen (Rebecca) Williams of Hutchinson, KS, his step-daughter Barbara (Jay) Wiuff of Rutland, and step-son Rod (Lynee) Hamilton of Mountain Lake, MN; 14 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Chester and Ethel Williams and his brother Calvin.
Services: 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at Gunderson Funeral Chapel with Barbara Huisman officiating. Military honors will be presented by the VFW Post 1856. Cremation will follow services and interment will be held at a later date.
