William W. McCurry, 80, Died Saturday Afternoon, Final Rites Held Monday

William W. McCurry, 80, died last Saturday afternoon at the home of his son, Howard, where he had resided in recent years. He had been in failing health for some time. Funeral services were held on Monday afternoon at 1:30 at the home and 2 o'clock at the Methodist church. Rev. E. D. Hart preached the sermon. Burial was made in the Goldfield cemetery. Members of the local Masonic lodge as well as a number from Goldfield attended the church services in a body and had charge at the graveside service.

William Wellesley McCurry, son of James Henry and Ruth Dewel McCurry, was born at Louisville, St. Lawrence County, New York, on November 24, 1861, and passed away at the home of his son, Howard, on Saturday, April 18, at the age of 80 years, 4 months and 24 days. He came to Iowa with his parents at the age of three years. They settled on the homestead three miles southeast of Renwick. He received his education in the rural schools of Wright county and taught in the rural schools of Wright and Humboldt counties for six years. On May 8, 1884, he was united in marriage to Fannie McQuaid of Marengo, Iowa, to which union two sons and one daughter were born, Roy Herbert, Mrs. A. R. Martin and James Howard, all of whom reside in this community.

Mr. and Mrs. McCurry established their new home on the farm two miles south of Renwick where their son, Howard, now lives. This was their home until 1917 when they moved to Renwick and where they lived until the death of Mrs. McCurry on November 14, 1936. Mr. McCurry then went to make his home with his son until he passed away. He was a member of Viona Lodge A.F. and A.M. for over forty years and a Past Master of that organization. He was also a member of the Town Council of Renwick for several years and was always sincerely interested in everything for the best in this town and community. He is survived by his three children, eleven grandchildren and four great grandchildren, and two brothers, Henry of LuVerne and Bert of Renwick.
