Death Suddenly Claims Its Own

Amanda A. Hartwell, youngest child of Joshua and Aurilla Hartwell, was born in Victory, Vermont, February 24th, 1858, and died of apoplexy, at her home in Renwick, February 4th, 1908, after a short illness of only twelve short hours. She came with her parents in 1866 to Bluffton, Winneshiek county, Iowa, where her mother died. In 1871 they came to Humboldt county. She married to Henry McCurry, September 12th, 1876 and to them were born two children, Richard of Santa Monica, Cal., and Myrtle, Mrs. Keister, deceased, she having preceded her mother to the Spirit world, thus leaving husband and son to mourn the loss of a wife and mother. One sister and two brothers survive her.

The funeral services conducted by Rev. Nicholson were held in the Baptist church Wednesday at 1:30 and were attended by a large circle of friends and acquaintances, after which the body was laid to rest in the Vernon cemetery.

Mrs. McCurry has lived in our midst for many years and her sudden taking away has been a great shock to the entire community. She was a woman devoted to her home and ever ready to do for those around her. The bountiful floral offerings were tributes of esteem in which the deceased was held. The husband and son have our heartfelt sympathy in this great affliction that has come into their lives. Be comforted dear friends for "It is not all of life to live nor all of death to do."
