Mrs. August Hoffman Passed Away Dec. 7

Mrs. August Hoffman 72 years of age, passed away, Saturday morning, December 7, 1946, at the Mercy Hospital in Fort Dodge, following a short illness. Mrs. Hoffman, the former Cora Isabella Kelling, daughter of John and Mary Kelling, was born February 4, 1874 in a log cabin on the Kelling homestead, what is now known as the Terry Mitchell farm home. She was united in marriage to August Hoffman December 23, 1896. This month, she and her husband would have celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary. Th this happy union five children were born. George W., Walter H., Irene O. Harris, Grace Hansen and Bernice Hansen. Mr. and Mrs. Hoffman moved to a farm in Boone Township after their marriage. They lived on this farm until they moved to their present home in 1924. Mrs. Hoffman was baptized into the Christian faith and became a member of the Renwick Methodist Church. She and her husband found great joy in their church.

She is survived by her husband and five children, also one sister, Katherine Okey, of Los Angeles, and eleven grandchildren. Mrs. Hoffman was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters and six brothers.

Among the many clippings and verses she had collected over the years, is this little verse which speaks of her faith and ours.

"A precious one from us has gone,
A voice we loved is stilled.
A place is vacant in our band
Which never can be filled.
God in His wisdom has recalled
The boon this love had given
and tho' the body slumbers here
The soul is safe in heaven."
