Mrs. Mary Calleson Funeral Services Tuesday

Mary Calleson nee Voss was born June 1, 1874 at Davenport, Scott County, Iowa. Her parents were Christopher and Katherine Voss. Already early in life she became a member of the Church of the Redeemer through the Sacrament of holy Baptism and later in life laid down a Confession of her faith after a course of indoctrination in the Word of God and affiliated with the Lutheran church. She received her education in the public schools of our land. In 1885 together with her parents, she came to Humboldt County and resided on a farm in the vicinity of Renwick, not many years after the town of Renwick came into being.

On May 14, 1892, Mary Voss and John Calleson joined hands in holy wedlock and for 47 years they walked hand in hand down life's pathway until death dissolved their partnership. Mrs. Calleson was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran church, and St. Paul's Ladies Aid of Renwick.

Life has its sunshine and Mrs. Calleson experienced a measure of the same, but life also has its darker side and her life was no exception to this rule. And, as a Christian she became a faithful cross bearer. On November 8, 1939 her husband passed away, leaving her to travel life's way alone, save for the companionship of her Lord and Savior, who has said, "I will never leave thee nor forsake thee." Her only brother, Mr. Julius Voss and her only sister, Mrs. Anna Holck, also a half sister, Ella Griebel, preceded her in death.

Something like ten years ago Mrs. Calleson underwent a critical operation from which she apparently recovered, but the past two or three years her health began to break down and more and more she had to rely upon the tender care of loved ones. Shortly after the death of her sister-in-law, Mrs. Meta Tanck, Mrs. Callesen fell and it became necessary to make other arrangements to care for her. Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kummrow of Ceylon, Minn., assumed the responsibility and as good Samaritans lovingly cared for her during the last days of her earthly sojourn.

Last Saturday noon, April 10, 1948 the Lord in His compassion, mercifully relieved her and called the weary pilgrim home at the age of 73 years, 10 months and 9 days.

There remain to mourn her loss, her half sister, Mrs. Paul Kummrow and her half brother, Mr. Adolph Griebel, both of Ceylon, Minn., as well as many nieces and nephews, friends and acquaintances. My she rest in peace.

Funeral services were held from the home and St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Renwick, Iowa, Tuesday afternoon, April 13, 1948, with Rev. Paul C. Lutz officiating. Suitable hymns were sung by a quartet consisting of Mrs. Wm. Helmke, Miss Donaldene Kraft, Mr. Maurice Nissen and Rev. Paul C. Lutz with Miss Marilyn Paine as organist. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Beenen Funeral Service and burial was made in the Goldfield cemetery. The pallbearers were Frank Griebel, Clarence Griebel, Hilbert Kummrow, Donald Kummrow, Geo. Holck, and Earl Holck, all nephews of the deceased.

Memorials were established in honor of the deceased by relatives and friends in an amount totaling $129.50 and were designated for the Crippled Children's home at Sterling, Nebr., for Missions, the Women's Missionary Federation, St. Paul's organ fund and other local projects, also many beautiful floral pieces were given.

Out of town relatives and friends attending the service were Mr. and Mrs. Hilbert Kummrow and children of Ruthven; Mr. and Mrs. Albert Anderson and Dorothy of Goldfield; Mr. and Mrs. Paul Kummrow and Donald, Mr. and Mrs. Adolph Griebel, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Griebel, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Griebel, Mr. and Mrs. John Reber, Mr. Earl Holck, George Holck and Fred Holck, all from Minnesota; Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Schilling and two daughters of Jamaica, Ia., Mrs. Laura Smith, and Mr. and Mrs. Corwin Peer and son of Algona.
