Mary Lucinda Orcutt was born May 27, 1848, to Thomas and Leah Miller Bethel, in Pals, Dane County, Wisconsin, where she grew to womanhood. She was married to William Orcutt May 13, 1864. They came to Iowa in April, 1865, bringing their three month old son. The were eleven days on the road coming by wagon. Mr. and Mrs. Orcutt established a home in Wright County, where they lived. They suffered the privation of pioneer life. They acquired a farm and lived there until 1896 when they moved to Eagle Grove, where she has since lived. Four children were born to them: John W. Orcutt, Olive V. Orcutt Robinson, Rosy Jane Orcutt and Cora Orcutt Pletcher.
Her husband passed away February 4, 1911. Rosy Jane, Olive, John and Cora preceded her in death and also two Grand daughters. They also raised three other children, George Beaton who lives in Marcus, Iowa, Charley Hamilton, who was killed in World War I, and Harold Wilfong, who lives on a farm near Goldfield.
She leaves two brothers and two granddaughters, twenty-three great granddaughers, twenty-five great great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and a host of friends. She was the fourth one of a family of 12 brothers and sisters.

Pioneer Settler of Eagle Grove Celebrates her 99th BirthdayMrs. George Jacobson entertained on two occasions, in honor of her Grandmother, Mrs. Mary Orcutt, who was 99 years old Tuesday, May 27th. On Sunday, May 25th, a dinner was served during the noon hour, and a social time was enjoyed. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Jacobson and son Steven, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Wilfong and Kathleen and Judy, and Mr. and Mrs. George Jacobson.
On Tuesday, another dinner was served and during the afternoon friends and neighbors called to wish Grandma Orcutt "Happy Birthday." She was the recipient of many nice gifts, flowers and cards. For her advanced age, she is in good health and enjoys visiting and meeting people.
Those attending from out of town were Mr. and Mrs. George Beaton, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Beaton and Jimmy, Eileen and Joyce from Marcus, Iowa. Also Tom Bethel, a nephew of Mrs. Orcutt's from Paulina, Iowa.
