Thomas Finnell, 72, Des Moines

Tom Finnell passed away Tuesday, February 19, 2013, after a lengthy illness at the age of 72 years and 7 months. Per Tom’s request cremation rites have been accorded and no services are planned. His cremated remains will be spread on a ranch in Arizona at a later date. Tom’s pride and joy was his family. He loved horses and he was happiest when he was in his Wranglers, cowboy hat and boots. Tom had a great sense of humor which he continued sharing until his passing. Tom was the youngest and only brother to six sisters, four of whom have preceded him in death. Tom is survived by his wife of 39 years, Marilyn (Bohy), stepdaughter, Deanna (Mark) Ziino of Indianola; his children, Christopher (Sue) Finnell of Winfield, Scott Finnell of Dallas, Texas, and Amy Finnell of Chariton; five grandchildren; one great-grandson; his sisters, Betty Sjulin of Oregon and Rose Howell of Beatrice, Neb.; sister-in-law, Barbara Hoffman of Des Moines; brothers-in-law, Wade Dimmitt of Red Oak and Paul Fletcher of Chandler, Ariz.; many nieces and nephews; and his very close friend, John Ferguson of Hamburg, Iowa. Memorial contributions may be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. Iles Funeral Homes, Westover, Dunn’s Brandt, Grandview Park, and Sundberg-Kirkpatrick Chapels of Des Moines were in charge of arrangements.
