Mary Irene Rogers, 91, of Great Falls, died of natural causes Friday, Feb. 22, at a local hospital. Funeral service is 1 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at Trout Creek Community Church in Trout Creek, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Schnider Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Mary was born on June 12, 1921, in Clarion, Iowa to Clyde and Nina (Montgomery) Potter. Her family moved to Whitetail and then Redstone where she attended school. She married Clarence Rogers on Sept. 24, 1937, in Scobey. They moved to Redstone where he farmed. They later moved to Polson where Clarence worked for the railroad. They then moved to Noxon and finally Trout Creek where Mary worked as a cook's helper in the Trout Creek grade school. After Clarence's death in 1984, she continued to live in Trout Creek until 1992, when she moved to Post Falls, Idaho. In 2000, she moved to Great Falls to be close to her son and daughter-in-law, Daryl and Kay Rogers.
While living at Eagle's Manor and later at Golden Eagle's Plaza, she attended the Baptist Service. She enjoyed playing bingo, pinochle and Texas Holdem. At the age of 87, she took up pool and received the Rookie of the Year Award. In the past, she crocheted blankets for all the grandkids. She enjoyed having company, especially babies, she enjoyed country music and loved traveling and visiting family.
Mary is survived by her sons, Clyde (Vicki) Rogers of Salem, Ore., Larry (Karen) Rogers of Montesano, Wash., Donald (Lonna) Rogers of Libby, Gerald (Dee) Rogers of Ronan, Daryl (Kay) Rogers of Great Falls and Steve (Edie) Rogers of Billings; daughters, Merna Helms of Noxon, Sharon (Mike) Evans of Port Orchard, Wash. and Sandy (Alan) McLinden of Winnemucca, Nev.; brother, Harry (Louise) Potter of Peoria, Ariz.; a sister, Helen (Neil) Rackley of Henderson, Ky.; 149 grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and great-great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence; three daughters, Laurie (Keith) Thompson, Darlene Hill and Linda Bleichner; an infant son, Arnold Rogers; parents; three brothers; and three sisters.
