CLEAR LAKE — Lee Weston Hughes, 77, of Clear Lake, died Sunday Feb. 17, 2013, at the Good Shepherd Health Center, Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday Feb. 23, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, with the Rev. Daird Korth of Redeemer Lutheran Church, Ventura, officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Clear Lake V.F.W. Following the service he will be cremated and inurnment will be at a later time in Evergreen Cemetery, Britt. Visitation will be Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the funeral home and then one hour before the service. Family suggests memorials to Lee W. Hughes memorial fund.

Lee was born June 9, 1935, rural Belmond, the son of Weston DeRush and Ada Marie (Shahan) Hughes. He attended school in Ventura. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Army and served during the Korean War November 1952-November 1955 as a SP(T) third-class.

Lee married Phyllis Baxter Amy on June 14, 1958. He worked at Red Wing Shoes, Red Wing, Minn., and the Clear Lake Bakery for over 38 years, retiring in 1997. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, telling jokes, playing with his grandchildren and having coffee with the boys at Town Pump and V.F.W. He enjoyed dancing and had more moves than John Travolta. He also enjoyed helping Kenny DeWitt on the farm and was well-known as an ace pool player and for his Words of Wisdoms. He was member of Clear Lake V.F.W.

Lee is survived by his three children, Debra “Amy” (Larry) Ott, Greene, Jeff (Shelly) Hughes, Faribault, Minn., and David (Robin ) Hughes, Mason City; and best friend, Phyllis Hughes, Clear Lake; nine grandchildren, Kaye Blong, Shane Ott, Jr. Ott, Crystal Klink, Autumn King, Brianna Hughes, Brittane Hughes, Kristina Stange and Jason Hughes; and thirteen great-grandchildren, McKennah Ott, Kaleb Ott, Logan Ott, Tyler Blong, Courtney Blong, Wesley Klink, Macabe Klink, Colton Klink, Natasha Ott, Karson Ott, Jaxson Ott, Eian Ott and Harmony King; five brothers, Gary (JoAnn) Hughes, Franklin Tennessee, Lyle (Margaret) Hughes, Marion, Paul (Judy) Hughes, Parkersburg, Keith (Suzette) Hughes, Trusdale, and Darwin (Jan) Hughes, Clear Lake; and two sisters, Becky (Steve) Frerichs, Steamboat Rock, and Linda (Gene) Helland, Fonda, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Ginny Mennenga, Barbara Pals and an infant sister, Lola Mae, and infant son, Thomas DeRush Hughes. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake, Iowa.
