Funeral Services for Eagle Grove Man Are Held; Survived by 2

EAGLE GROVE, Jan. 11.— Funeral services for the late Walter Forsyth, 81, were held at the undertaking parlors on Friday afternoon, and burial was made in Rose Hill cemetery. The sermon was given by the Rev. J. G. Eaton, retired minister of the Baptist church, and music was given by a quartet of women. He is survived by two daughters: Mrs. J. H. Martin in Eagle Grove, and Mrs. Charlotte Kimball in Aberdeen, S. Dak.; a nephew, George E. Scott in Eagle Grove; also three sisters: Mrs. Margaret Vose, Fort Dodge; Mrs. E. E. Bradley, Clinton, and Mrs. Jane Bates of Sioux Falls, S. Dak. Mr. and Mrs. Forsyth lived in Lowden for a time, where they conducted what is now the railway hotel of the Chicago and Northwestern.

Walter Forsyth was born Feb. 21, 1849 at Humeston, Welland county Ontario, Canada and died in Eagle Grove, Iowa, Jan. 8, 1930. He came to Iowa in 1865 and lived at South Grove, Clinton county, Iowa. He worked on the farm and then took up well drilling, which occupation he followed until the few years. In 1872 he was married to Miss Ella Willetts of Union, Iowa. Three children were born to this union, and two children died in infancy. He has one daughter at Aberdeen, S.D. Mrs. Forsyth died in 1878.

In 1884 he was united in marriage to Miss Jennie Mardis of Lowden, Iowa. One daughter was born to them, Mrs. J. H. Martin of this city. They lived in Lowden and conducted what is now the North Western Railroad hotel.

In 1892 they moved to Eagle Grove, where he has since resided. Mr. Forsyth has drilled a large percent of the wells in and around Eagle Grove.

Mr. Forsyth was found dead by his nephew, George E. Scott, Wednesday morning, Jan. 8 about 9:30 o'clock. Had he lived until the 21st of February he would have been 81 years old. He is survived by one daughter from his first marriage, Mrs. Kimball of Aberdeen, S.D., who, due to illness, was unable to attend the funeral, and Mrs. J. H. Martin of Eagle Grove; also three sisters, Mrs. Margaret Voss, Fort Dodge; Mrs. E. E. Bradley of Clinton, Iowa, and Mrs. Jane Bates of Sioux Falls, S.D.; several nieces and nephews, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at the undertaking parlors of Kubitschek & Kastler on Thursday afternoon, conducted by Rev. J. G. Eaton and burial was made in Rose Hill cemetery.
