Paul J. Niebur, an Eagle Grove merchant and municipal clerk, died of heart failure on January 4, 2013, at a hospital in Ocala, Fla. He was 94. A native of Norfolk, Neb., Paul was serving as a radar operator on the destroyer Shubrick in 1945 when it was hit by a kamikaze in the Pacific and nearly sunk. After WWII service, he moved his family to Eagle Grove to own and operate Paul’s Pay-N-Takit grocery on Broadway for 20 years. He served as city councilman in the 60’s, and then worked as Eagle Grove municipal clerk in the 70’s and 80’s. He moved to Florida with his wife, Deleine, after retiring from City Hall. He remarried after Dee’s death, and is survived by his spouse, Marion. He is also survived by his son, Doug, and two grandchildren.
