Larry Maxon, 78, Chamberlain, died Wednesday, Feb. 6, 2013, at Sanford Care Center, Chamberlain. He was born on Oct. 26, 1934. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, Ola. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, Bijou Hills. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at Hickey Funeral Chapel, Chamberlain, with a 7 p.m. prayer service.

Lawrence L. “Larry” Maxon was born to Burt and Loretta (Bish) Maxon in Eagle Grove, Iowa. Larry was raised in Iowa, Minnesota and South Dakota. He attended grade school and high school in Chamberlain. On July 6, 1954, Larry was united in marriage to Nola Olson at Pukwana. He worked maintenance at Riverside Dairy, 10 years at the Chamberlain School and later at Mid Dakota Hospital for 25 years. He was inducted to the Wall of Fame at Mid Dakota Hospital. Larry was enlisted in the Army National Guard for 33 years. He was also a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Gratefully sharing in his life are his wife, Nola, Chamberlain; two sons: Don Maxon and wife Debra, Sioux Falls; and Jim Maxon and wife Marla, Chamberlain; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, a brother-in-law, David Lokensgard, St. Paul, Minn.; and a sister-in-law, Alice Maxon, Wausau, Wis. Preceding him in death were his parents, a son, Gary; three brothers: Keith, Clare and Robert, and two sisters: Thelma Wing and Shirley Lokensgard.
