July 22, 1922 --- January 26, 2013

Milan (Lug) C. Macek, 90, passed away on January 26, 2013 at the Paula J. Baber Hospice Home after a sudden illness. A celebration of his life will be held at the Gunderson Funeral Home on February 2, 2013 from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 2, 2013.

Milan was born on July 22, 1922, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. He was the son of John Sr. and Gisela (Jurisin) Macek. He was the fifth child of 13 children. He graduated from Fort Dodge Senior High in 1940. Milan served his country in the US Navy as an aviation machinist's mate during WWII. Milan married Darlene Michehl on November 18, 1945 in Vincent, Iowa. He graduated from Art School in Chicago. For 33 years he worked for Prudential Insurance Company, retiring in 1983.

Survivors include son Gary Macek (Nancy Ferguson) of West Des Moines, daughters Cathy Anderson (Tom) of Johnston and Dawn Kueny (Tom) of Swisher; grandchildren April Anderson of Austin, TX, Andrew (Bonny) of West Des Moines, Samantha Kueny of Cedar Falls and Adam Kueny of Swisher; great-granddaughters Jasmin and Madison Anderson of West Des Moines; 4 brothers John Jr., Robert, Ronald and Mike; 2 sisters MaryLee and Darlene; his best friend and companion of 10 years Barbara Fisher; and many nieces, nephews and in-laws. Milan was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 55 yrs Darlene in 2001; 3 brothers and 3 sisters-in-laws Louie and Ada Michehl, many in-laws, nieces and nephews.

Milan was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He will always be remembered for his generosity to so many and his Dove Project. As he said in each of his doves, "We can only have peace if we try and it is really up to all of us. God be with you and help pass on this message of love and peace to the many you may know. God be with you and may you find Peace as I now have. The Lord's blessing and Dovidenia. (Till we meet again.) If not here on Earth then in God's heavenly mansion." Milan C. "Lug" Macek 8/4/03.
