Donald Max Moenck passed away at Tompkins Memorial Health Center in Fort Dodge on Sunday, January 20, 2013. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the Celebration Center at Friendship Haven with burial following at Newark Township Cemetery, Vincent, IA. The family will greet friends from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the Celebration Center. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at Gunderson Funeral Home & Cremation Services.

Don was born on October 11, 1924 to Rudy and Zelda (Gustafson) Moenck. He graduated from Duncombe High School and married his high school sweetheart, Dorothy Simpson in 1943. He farmed north of Duncombe and made the decision to quit farming and pursue his passion for carpentry. He was the owner of the Vincent Lumber Co., building and remodeling homes and farm buildings.

Don was a member of the Vincent Lions Club, the Fort Dodge Golden K Kiwanis, a board member of New Co-op and served on the Friendship Haven building committee. He was always active in the life of Duncombe, Vincent and First United Methodist Churches when he was a member. He and Dorothy enjoyed their annual fishing trip to Minnesota and Canada, they were avid card players, loyal Hawkeye fans and world travelers. In the winter of 2000, Don and Dorothy purchased a condo at Friendship Haven. He continued his love for carpentry at Friendship Haven, building and repairing many projects. He was a volunteer at Tompkins Health Center, escorting patients to their activities. He was truly a dedicated servant.

Don is survived by his wife Dorothy; daughters Carol (Jim) Eich of Fort Dodge, Sue Gilbert of St. Louis Park, MN; son Gary (Linda) Moenck of Webster City, IA; grandchildren Jeff (Christine) Anderson and Tim (Kathy) Anderson of Webster City, IA, Amy (Jayson) Heesch of Dayton, IA, Sherry (Dan) Warrick, Christy (Lance) Walker and Angela Schwartz of the Minneapolis area, Ryan (Erin) Moenck of St. Peter, MN, Nathan (Emily) Moenck of Fitchberg, WI, Heath Moenck of Indianola, IA, Heidi (Travis) Barrick of Farmington, MN and 19 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother John (Karen) Moenck of Washington, IA and sister in-law Lila Moenck of Caledonia, MN. He was preceded in death by his parents, son in-law Clifford Anderson, brothers and sister in-laws Robert and Mavis Moenck, Harold Moenck and Richard and Wilma Moenck.

He loved his family deeply and loved seeing his grandchildren participating in their activities. He will be greatly missed by all who were fortunate to know him. Memorials may be left to the Friendship Haven Building Fund.
