Funeral Tuesday for Kenneth Mickelson

Funeral services for Kenneth Vern Mickelson were held Tuesday afternoon in the Ullensvang Lutheran Church, Thor. The pastor, Rev. Marlin Ingebretson, was in charge. Burial was in Norway Lake Cemetery, Thor.

Mr. Mickelson died Saturday, August 7, at the Rotary Ann Nursing Home where he was a patient for some time. He had been ill for several months and hospitalized during that time.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Mabel Mickelson, one son, Keith, Eagle Grove; three daughters: Mrs. Wm. Hanson, Fort Dodge; Mrs. Marvin Reiland, Eagle Grove; and Mrs. Elwyn Bruhl of Badger. Other survivors are nine grandchildren, one sister and one brother, Miss Dorothy Mickelson, Eagle Grove, and Dr. Clifford Mickelson, Webster City.

Mr. Mickelson was born in Woolstock and attended Eagle Grove schools. He married Elvera Elm at LaGrange, Missouri in 1941 and farmed in the Thor-Eagle Grove area until December 1975. Mrs. Mickelson died in the Eagle Grove cafe explosion in 1973. He was a member of the Thor Lutheran Church and a church trustee. He was also a member of the Sons of Norway and Farm Bureau.

Kenneth Vern Mickelson was born March 11, 1919, at Woolstock the son of Chris and Mabel Kirkeberg Mickelson. He attended school at Eagle Grove. On June 24, 1941 he married Elvera Elm of Duncombe, at LaGrange, Missouri. He and his wife farmed near Thor until her death in February 1973. He became disabled in December 1975. He died at the Rotary Ann Home in Eagle Grove on Saturday, August 7, 1976, at the age of 57 years, four months and 26 days.

He is survived by his mother, Mabel Mickelson; one son, Keith, Eagle Grove; three daughters, Linda (Mrs. Wm.) Hanson, Fort Dodge; Marlys (Mrs. Marvin) Reiland, Eagle Grove; Mary (Mrs. Elwyn) Bruhl, Badger; one brother, Dr. Clifford Mickelson, Webster City; one sister, Dorothy Mickelson, Eagle Grove, and nine grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and his wife, Elvera.

Kenneth was a member of the Thor Lutheran Church where he served as a trustee. He was a member of the Sons of Norway. He was a Farm Bureau member. Services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, August 10, at the Thor Lutheran Church. Pastor Marlin Ingebretson officiated and burial was in the Norway Lake Cemetery, Thor.
