April 15, 1920 --- January 4, 2013

Dilene Orpen, 92, of Northwood, Iowa, died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013, at the Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa, Mason City, Iowa. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 8, at the Elk Creek Lutheran Church, rural Kensett, Iowa, with the Rev. Thomas Martin officiating. Family will greet friends one hour before the service. Interment will be in Elk Creek Lutheran Church Cemetery. Family suggests memorials to Elk Creek Lutheran Church.

Dilene was born April 15, 1920, in Osterdock, Iowa, the daughter of William and Grace (Pals) Tinkey. She grew up in the Alexander, Iowa, area, graduating from Alexander High School. She married Edward Drury in 1941. They lived in Clear Lake and then moved to Long Beach, Calif., and lived there until he passed away. She then moved back to Alexander where she met and married Alvin Orpen 1954. They lived in rural Kensett until they retired, then moved to Northwood.

Dilene enjoyed gardening, baking, reading, crocheting, playing cards and dancing. She enjoyed visiting with her friends and made a point to do so. She has been a member of Elk Creek Lutheran Church since 1954 and was very active in the church, church circles, ladies aid and is the second oldest member of Elk Creek Lutheran Church.

Dilene is survived by her three children: Vickie (Bill) Koehler, Bellevue, Neb., Marc (Colleen) Drury, Kinnear, Wyo., and Joyce (Jon) Reininger, Edina, Minn.; grandchildren; sister, Loraine Halfwassen, Belmond, Iowa; two sisters-in-law: Mardell Tinkey Coralville, Iowa, and Diann Orpen, Northwood, Iowa; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; two brothers, Loren and Delbert Tinkey; and two sisters, Lois Bryan and Jollene Jaacks. Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S., Northwood, Iowa.
