Freda (Beek) Wessels, age 95, of Belmond passed away Thursday December 27, 2012 at the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond. Funeral services for Freda Wessels will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday December 31, 2012 at the Bethany Reformed Church, 927 1st Street N.E. in Belmond. Rev. Philip Arnold will officiate. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation for Freda Wessels will be held from 3:00 – 5:00 P.M. Sunday December 30, 2012 at the Bethany Reformed Church and continue at the church one hour prior to services on Monday. Memorials may be made in Freda (Beek) Wessels’ name to the family. Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond is in charge of arrangements.

Funeral services for Freda Wessels will be held at 2 p.m. today, Monday Dec. 31, 2012, at the Bethany Reformed Church, 927 First St. N.E., Belmond. The Rev. Philip Arnold will officiate. Burial will be in the Belmond Cemetery. Visitation for Freda Wessels was held from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 30, at the Bethany Reformed Church, and will continue at the church one hour prior to services today. Memorials may be made in Freda (Beek) Wessels’ name to the family. Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane S., Belmond, is in charge of arrangements.

Freda, the daughter of Hemmo and Johanna Weigman Beek, was born Jan. 2, 1917, near Klemme. She grew up in the Klemme and Goodell area where Freda attended school. Freda was baptized and confirmed in the Klemme Reformed Church. Freda was united in marriage to William Wessels on Dec. 14, 1938, at the Klemme Reformed Church parsonage. The couple made their home on a farm between Klemme and Goodell. Freda helped William farm and worked as a house keeper for area families.

Freda and William were blessed with two daughters, Shirley and Darlene. In 1965, the couple moved to Belmond. Freda entered the Belmond Apartments in 2005 and then the Rehabilitation Center of Belmond in 2010. Freda was a farm wife. She gardened and canned. Freda quilted, did embroidery and reupholstering. William and Freda loved traveling together. They visited the four corners of the United States, but liked Florida the most. She bowled and played 500 cards. Freda was a member of the Bethany Reformed Church in Belmond and the Belmond Hospital Auxiliary.

Freda is survived by her daughters, Shirley Goeman and husband, LeRoy, of Belmond, Darlene Pals and husband, Gary, of Belmond; five grandchildren: Bill Goeman, Bob and Deb Goeman, Pam and Ted Calkins, Philip Pals, Patty and Don Munson; 11 great-grandchildren: Lucas, Benjamin, Angela, Kyle, Cheyenne, Rebecca, Cassie, Bryce, Crystal, Westley and Anna; three great-great-grandchildren: Hunter, Gabby and Faith; and numerous other nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, William; brothers and sisters, Carl, Herman, John, Bennie, Henry, George, Minnie, Dena, Katie and Mary.
