GEORGE ANDREW NETLAND
December 9, 1918 --- January 7, 1979George Netland was born December 9, 1918 to Benjamin and Mary Schepler Netland at Eagle Grove. He attended country school there. He moved to Klemme as a child with his parents and continued school there. On September 21, 1928, he was married to Shirley Rapp at Britt. He worked for the Rock Island Railroad until he was drafted into military service in 1941. After his discharge he returned to the railroad. In the early 1950's he went to work at the Co-op Elevator in Klemme. In the 1960's he started working for the county highway department and remained until his health required him to retire in 1975. He was a member of the Garner VFW and the Klemme American Legion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, one daughter and one sister. Surviving are his wife, Shirley; three sons, Willard, Merlin and Benjamin Netland, all of Klemme; four daughters, Karen (Mrs. Gayle) Lay of Eldridge, Mary (Mrs. Cecil) Noble of Garner, Marilyn (Mrs, Duane) Robert of Garner and Carolyn Netland of Klemme; two sisters, Ethel Sobek and Mary Lou (Mrs. Elmer) Bachman and 17 grandchildren.
