Carroll R. Martin, 84, of Boone (formerly of Clarion) passed away Thursday, December 20, 2012 at the Israel Family Hospice House in Ames.
A Mass of Christian Burial for Carroll Martin will be held on Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 1:00 PM at St. John’s Catholic Church, 608 2nd Avenue North East in Clarion with Father Nils Hernandez and Father Randy Schon concelebrating. Interment will be at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery in Clarion. Visitation for Carroll Martin will be held on Friday, December 21, 2012 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM at Ewing Funeral Home, 602 North Main Street in Clarion. A Rosary service will take place at 7:00 PM.
Carroll was born on August 30, 1928 in rural Clarion to Arthur and Genevieve (Miller) Martin. He attended Clarion High School where he was state wrestling champion. After graduation, he proudly served in the United States Army. In 1952, he married Frances Lynch at St. John’s Catholic Church in Clarion and together they farmed south of Clarion, until his retirement in 1994. In 1998, Carroll and Frances moved to Muscatine to be near their daughter, Nancy. In 2010, they made their home in Boone, which was closer to their daughter, Carole. Carroll was a member of Knights of Columbus. He was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing in an adult softball league and attending his children and grandchildren’s events.
Carroll is survived by his wife, Frances of Boone, IA; son, Craig Martin of Clarion, IA; daughter, Nancy (Mark) Davison of Nashville, TN and their children, Calli, Jeff and Marci; daughter, Carole (Tom) Barragy of Boone, IA and their children, Matt and Grace; David (Christine) Martin of Iowa City, IA and their children, Anna, Sarah, Michael and Caitlin; daughter, Karen (Gene) Busch of Ledyard, IA and their children, Trey and Peyton; brother, Russell Martin of Clarksville, IA and sisters, Maxine Dougherty of Belmond, IA and LaVonne ‘Tudy’ Falconer of Newport Beach, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant daughter, Mary Ann Martin and brother, Jack Martin.
