Donald Leck Hooker was born on August 1, 1907 in Lucas, Iowa. He graduated from Lucas High School and attended Parsons College in Fairfield, Iowa. Don went to Des Moines and was an orderly at the Lutheran Hospital where he met Olive through a friend of hers who was a nurse. On August 30, 1930 was united in marriage to Olive Gangstead at the Hans Gangstead home in Thor, Iowa and was married for 69 years. He farmed in the Thor and Goldfield area and retired in 1972. He moved to Clarion in 1993. He died at the U.S.A. Health Care Center in Clarion on April 20, 2000. Donald was a member of Lake Lutheran Church, where he held offices of Deacon, Trustee, and usher. He was Director of Lake #7 County School, and served on the Board of W&H Co-op Oil Company for several years. Donald is survived by his wife Olive, son Ronald Hooker and wife Marie of Webster City; daughter Charlene Nerem and husband Merrill of West Union, Iowa; grandsons Terry Hooker and wife Michelle, Tim Hooker of Webster City, Dr. Joel Nerem and wife Denise of Harmony, Mn., and Matt Nerem of Tipton; a great granddaughter Emily; two step-great granddaughters Megan and Nadia Williams; and two brothers, Wayne of Chariton and Raymond of Des Moines. He was preceded in death by his parents Leck and Myrtle Hooker; sisters Fern Brooks, and Marie Munday and a brother Kenneth.
