Olive Angenette Gangstead Hooker was born July 24, 1908 at Rural Goldfield. She graduated from Goldfield High School and the University of Commerce in Des Moines. On August 30, 1930 she was united in marriage to Donald Hooker at the Hans Gangstead farm home and was married for 69 years. In her early marriage she Works as a secretary for the Royal Type Writer Company and Owens Illinois Glas Company in Des Moines. Later she resided in Thor and Goldfield area as a farm wife and then retired in 1973. The address of the family was 2036 Xenia Ave, Goldfield, Iowa. She moved to the Meadows Memorial Hospital in Clarion in 1993 and died at the Community Memorial Hospital in Clarion on June 4, 2000, just a month and a half after her husband Donald died. Olive was a member of Lake Lutheran Church, baptized at the Lutheran Church in Thor, and confirmed at the Lake Lutheran Church. Olive sang in the Choir, was a Sunday School Teacher and a member of ELCAW, where she held various offices. Olive is survived by her son Ronald Hooker and wife Marie of Webster City; daughter Charlene Nerem and husband Merrill of West Union, Iowa; grandsons Terry Hooker and wife Michelle, Tim Hooker from Webster City, Dr. Joel Nerem and wife Denise of Harmony, Mn. and Matt Nerem of Tipton, Iowa, three great granddaughters Emily Nerem, Megan and Nadia Williams; and two brothers Rev. Owen Gangstead of Decorah, Ia. and Harold Gangstead of Sioux Falls, SD, two sisters Enid Novy of Kenosha Wi., and Mabel Berkland of Fort Dodge. She is preceded in death by her husband Donald, her parents Hans and Hannah Gangstead; sisters Agnes Stockdale and Ester Harvey.
