March 23, 1856 -- March 28, 1940

Josephine Arrilla (Borland) Kellogg was born on Sunday; March 23, 1856 in Niagara County, New York. She was the daughter of: Andrew and Rose Ann Borland. At an early age her parents moved to Michigan and in 1865 moved to Benton county, Iowa. Her girlhood years were spent here, where she received her education for a teacher; teaching at Tama, Tama County, Iowa; New Providence, Hardin County, Iowa and and Dows, Wright County, Iowa. In the spring of 1880 she with her parents moved to a farm in Hamilton county, Iowa. On December 1, 1880, she was united in marriage to Rverson E. Kellogg of Dows, Iowa. With this union, Five children were born. Josephine accepted Christ as her leader in her early years, remaining true to that belief until the end, taking part in the activities of the Congregational Church as long as health permitted. She continued teaching at Tama, Tama County, Iowa; New Providence, Hardin County, Iowa and Dow, Wright County, Iowa. She moved to Alden, Iowa where she has since made her home, with the exception of a few years spent in New Providence, Iowa. In February, 1895, the family moved to a farm near Alden, Iowa where on Tuesday; November 20, 1906, her husband passed away.

Josephine Arrilla (Borland) Kellogg, 84, passed away on Thursday; March 28, 1940 at her home in Alden, Iowa. Those left to mourn her passing are: Her five children: Theron E. Williams; R. Earl of Union Center; Meade County, South Dakota; Lurinda Murray of Rapid City; Pennington County, South Dakota; Arrilla Swenson, Radcliffe, and Elta Havens of Washington, D. C. Her twenty-one grandchildren, her eight great grandchildren and two step daughters; her brother: Sidney Borland of Peterson; Clay County, Iowa and her sister: Addie Kinyon of Los Angeles; Los Angeles, California. Also many other relatives and friends. Josephine was preceded by her two brothers and two sisters. May they rest in peace. May God bless her memory and give strength to those that mourn. Arrangements for funeral services have not been completed, awaiting word from relatives from a distance. Interment will be at the Buckeye Cemetery in Buckeye; Hardin County, Iowa.
