January 29, 1919 ---- September 15, 2007

Elizabeth Young, 88, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, formerly of Waverly, Iowa, died Saturday, September 15, 2007, at home from complications of Colon Cancer. She was born on January 29, 1919 to Ralph and Emma (Johanson) Tincher in Clarion, Iowa. She had one brother, Raymond, who died in 1927 at the age of 12 years. After graduating from Clarion High School in 1936, she attended Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines, where she received a secretarial degree. Elizabeth was united in marriage to Charles Duane Young, of Dexter, Minnesota, on June 30, 1939 in Clarion. In 1942 they moved to Waverly. The next year they moved to Attalla, Alabama, while Duane served in the military during WWII. Upon returning to Waverly, Elizabeth worked as bookkeeper at the Farm Bureau office in Waverly. It was about this time that both Elizabeth and Duane came to accept the Lord Jesus Christ as the personal Savior and followed Him in baptism at First Baptist Church in Waverly. For several years she served there as Sunday school teacher, Secretary and Treasurer. In 1956, she gave birth to their daughter, Mary Beth. Elizabeth helped manage her husband's Watkins dealership for nearly 30 years. In 1986 she retired from being the bookkeeper at the B & B Oil Coop, where she had worked for 20 years. Duane died on January 16, 1994.

Over the years Elizabeth enjoyed gardening, playing the piano, researching her family's genealogy and traveling to visit her family. For the past five years she has lived with her daughter and her family in Chattanooga. After a hospitalization in February of this year, she entered the East Ridge Life Care Center but returned to her daughter's home June 1st, under the care of Hospice of Chattanooga.

Elizabeth is survived by her daughter, Mary Beth (David) Sheetz of Chattanooga, and her three grandchildren, Jonathan, Benjamin and Hannah, all of Chattanooga. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Duane, and her brother, Raymond.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 pm, Friday, September 21, 2007, at First Baptist Church, Waverly. Visitation will be on Thursday, from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm at the Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home, Waverly, and on Friday at the church for one hour prior to the services. Memorials may be directed to the family.
