May 24, 1915 --- October 4, 1961

Maj. John F. Wehrheim, 46, of Portland, [Texas] died at 11 p.m. Wednesday after suffering a heart attack while crossing the Nueces Bay Causeway. His wife, Elizabeth, brought the car to a halt. Justice of the Peace W. H. Zavits of Portland ruled death by natural causes. A native of Eagle Grove, Iowa, Wehrheim enlisted in the Army just after he finished high school. He served in the European theatre during World War II. He married Mrs. Wehrheim, the former Elizabeth Skilton of Scotland, in London during the war. After retiring three years ago, the Wehrheims moved to Portland. He was associated with the Cass Realty Co. Survivors, other than his wife, are one daughter, Virginia; two sons, Francis and Michael Joseph, of Portland; his mother, Mrs. Gertrude Wehrheim of Eagle Grove; three brothers, George of Corpus Christi and Conrad and Robert of Eagle Grove; and two sisters, Mrs. Eileen Miller of Del Mar, Calif., and Mrs. Margaret Jones of Ames, Iowa. A prayer service will be at 8 p.m. today in Maxwell P. Dunne Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow, also in the chapel. Burial will be in Seaside Memorial Park.
