Clarence Oskvig, age 95, of Alden died on Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at the Ellsworth Municipal Hospital. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 27 at the Surls Funeral Home in Iowa Falls with burial in the Radcliffe Cemetery. Visitation will be an hour before services. The Surls Funeral Home of Iowa Falls is in charge of arrangements.

Clarence was born on January 1, 1917 on a farm in Hamilton County, Iowa, Rose Grove Township to Ordin and Isabelle (Welland) Oskvig. Clarence was baptized in the Lanstad Lutheran Church on July 1, 1917 two miles southwest of the farm house he was born. Clarence attended schools in Williams and a country school 1/2 mile west of the farm. Clarence was a veteran of WWII Pacific Theater based at Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He participated in the battles of Tarawa, Tinian, Makin, Saipan, and Iwo Jima. He was a Staff Sergeant in Company B. Signal Battalion Construction Aviation. On February 24, 1952 Clarence was united in marriage to Doris Olson of Radcliffe at the Salem Lutheran Church. They lived in Williams for seven years, gave birth to their two sons, Carroll and Paul, then moved to their current home in 1959 which became a Century Farm in 2009 under their ownership. Clarence enjoyed picking corn by hand, driving teams of horses, walking soybeans, painting his farm buildings, watching Lawrence Welk on TV with Doris, 4-H calf showing with his boys, making pancakes for his grandchildren, and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.

Clarence was preceded in death by his wife, Doris of 59 years; parents, Ordin and Isabelle; four sisters and five brothers. Survivors include two sons, Paul on the Century Farm southwest of Alden and Carroll and wife, Martha of Milford; three grandsons, Jason and wife, Sarah of Ankeny, Kyle of Iowa City, and Keith of Milford; and a granddaughter, Kay of Iowa City.
