Mason City - Carol Wilda (Eden) Sutton, 80, Mason City, formerly of Mission, Texas, and Rudd, Iowa, died Sunday, September 23, 2012, at the Good Shepherd Care Center in Mason City. A celebration of Carol's life will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 29, at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 3rd Street NE, Mason City, with Pastor Paul Nelson of St. James Lutheran Church in Mason City officiating. Inurnment will take place in the Oakwood Cemetery in Plymouth. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time on Saturday at the chapel.
Carol was born on February 15, 1932, on the family farm in Woden, the youngest daughter of William and Edna (Fox) Eden. She graduated from Kanawha High School in 1950. After graduation she moved to Mason City, working at Marshall and Swift and a bakery, and spent many leisure hours rollerskating where she met her husband, Earl. She was united in marriage to Earl Sutton on July 8, 1951, and to this marriage two daughters were born, Dawn and April. They started married life together farming on the family farm north of Nora Springs, later farming near Osage, Nora Springs and eventually moving to their farm north of Rudd.
She spent many years working at the knitting mill in Osage and then became a full-time housewife and mother. Many days you could find her on the tractor getting the fields ready for planting or helping with harvest. She was an accomplished cook and an excellent role model helping her daughters in their 4-H projects. Cooking, canning, gardening and sewing were just a few skills she passed on to them. Carol and Earl enjoyed attending their grandchildren's school activities and welcoming each new great-grandchild into the family.
There was never a garage sale Carol could just drive by and needed the bumper sticker, "This car brakes for all Garage Sales." She enjoyed many an afternoon playing cards with the gals from Rudd. Carol and Earl loved wintering at their home in Mission, Texas, where jam sessions, big band music and dancing kept them on the go.
Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Dawn Jacobson and husband Dave of Mason City; five grandchildren, Jennifer Hodak and friend Brock Dump of Sioux Falls, S.D., Josh Jacobson and friend Joy Fullhart of Robbinsdale, Minn., Bryce Fitzpatrick and wife Suzanne of Biloxi, Miss., Hollie Walusz and friend Trevor Moore of Boston, Mass., and Julieann Sandine and husband Ross of Sioux Falls, S.D.; great-grandchildren, Ashlyn and Zakariah Hodak, Cullen, Gabriel and Kian Fitzpatrick, and Baby Sandine; as well as many other special extended family members and friends. Carol will also be missed by her living and protective dog, Freeway, and cat, Keela. Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Earl, on February 14, 2012; daughter, April Robinson; parents, William and Edna Eden; brother, Earl Eden; and sister, Dona Clappsaddle.
