Floyd M. Smith, 86, of Goldfield, passed away Thursday, September 27, 2012 at Humboldt Care Center North in Humboldt. Funeral services will be Monday, October 1, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield, with Rev. Sara Hill officiating. Rev. Christina Perkins, pastor at Goldfield and Renwick United Methodist churches, will assist. Burial will be at Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield. Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 30 from 4-6 p.m. at Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Floyd Smith was born June 21, 1926, at Laurens, Iowa, to Jess Lonzo and Ethel Mae (Wrider) Smith. He attended schools in Ware, Centerville, Lynnville, and Grinnell, graduating from Grinnell in 1946. He married Nola Marjorie (Budding) Smith on August 10, 1950, in Oskaloosa. Floyd farmed with his father and brother, Victor, until entering the service. He served in the U.S. Army in 1951 and 1952 during the Korean Conflict in the 10th Infantry, Company M, 185th Infantry (Heavy Mortar), 25th Division. He obtained the rank of Sergeant. Following his honorable discharge he returned to farming in the Lynnville area, until moving to Goldfield in 1954 where he continued to farm with his brother. Floyd and his wife retired in 1992 and moved into Goldfield. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church of Goldfield.
Floyd is survived by his children, Diane (Mike) Kraft, Goldfield; Donna Smith, Webster City; Sheri (Bill) Nielsen, Hardy, and Scott Smith, Shelby (Taricia English), Falls City, NE); six grandchildren, Michael Nielsen, Ames; Katie Smith, Webster City; Rachael Smith, Eagle Grove; Joanna Kraft and Daniel Kraft, both of Goldfield, and Marjorie Smith, Falls City, NE; two step-grandchildren, Desiree Paty, Cumberland, and Nathan Paty, Shelby, and two step-great-grandchildren. Also, Andrea English, Sioux Falls, SD, Jamie English, Lincoln NE, and Erica, Jessica and Sarah Rickards, Falls City, NE; one sister-in-law, Glenna Budding, Lynnville; two brother-in-laws, John Budding, Grinnell, and Walter Machin, Newton, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Nola; parents; brother, Victor, and sisters, Thelma Pickich, Irene Terrill, and Beulah Machin.
