August 28, 1942 --- September 24, 2012

Sharon Kay Barlow, 70, went to heaven on Sept 24, 2012 after a courageous battle with cancer.

Sharon was born on August 28, 1942 to the late Harvey and Lila (Fjetland) Hopkey in Belmond, Iowa. She attended Alexander High School and graduated in 1960. She then worked at Lutheran Hospital in Fort Dodge Iowa receiving her Medical Records/Transcription education. Sharon met the love of her life Raymond Barlow, and they were wed on October 10, 1970 in Clear Lake, Iowa. She worked at Franklin County Hospital in Hampton Iowa until the adoption of their first child, Kimberly in June of 1976. They adopted their second child, Gregory in August of 1978. Sharon stayed home with the children and just occasionally filled in for maternity leaves over the next few years. In 1987, they relocated to Columbus, Nebraska. Sharon stayed home with the kids doing all the school and activities running and just being a great mom. She took a job with Columbus Community Hospital in 1996 in the Medical Records department. She really enjoyed her job as she had stayed home raising children for so many years. She worked at the hospital for 16 years, with the last 5 years working from home doing transcription. Sharon retired August 31, 2012.

Sharon enjoyed her children and grandchildren very much. Kimberly and Darin Berger of Meriden, Kansas and their children Dawson (13) and Shelby (12), and Greg and Faith Barlow of Lincoln, Nebraska and their children Madelyn (10), Nathanial (8), Chrystian (6) and Gracelyn (2). The past few summers the grandkids have loved to come spend time at Grandpa & Grandmas in the summertime for a ton of spoiling.

Sharon also enjoyed baking, helping with the canning from Ray's big garden, shopping for the grandkids, reading and hitting the jackpots at the casinos. She loved to travel and was hoping to do a lot of that but then was diagnoses with cancer. Sharon's smile and big heart will be missed by so many. Her generosity and joy of helping others was a way of life to her. Sharon was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.

Sharon is survived by her husband, Raymond Barlow, Columbus NE, daughter Kimberly (Darin) Berger of Meriden KS, son Gregory (Faith) Barlow of Lincoln, NE.
