Funeral Services For Amandus Nelson Held Friday At Baptist Church

Funeral services for Amandus Nelson were held Friday afternoon at 2 p. m. at the Baptist church in Renwick with the Rev. Glenn Emmert, assisted by the Rev. Kay Mills of Goldfield officiating. Kathie Emmert sang with Ona Marie Engstrom as pianist. Casket attendants were Glen F. Martin, M. B. Richardson, James McGowan, Robert McGowan, Geo. Bell and John French. Arrangements were by Blake Funeral home of Renwick.

Amandus J. Nelson, son of Geo. M. Nelson and Eline Nelson, was born near Goldfield, Iowa, Jan. 10, 1891, and passed away at Mercy hospital, Ft Dodge, Iowa, July 13, 1960. He grew to young manhood in the Goldfield Community and was educated in the Goldfield schools. In June 1911 he was united in marriage to Amanda Wambsal. To this union one son was born, Gerald Nelson of Renwick. Mr. Nelson was employed by John Kerr on the Kerr farms in 1917. When Mr Kerr became ill, Amandus moved into the Kerr home and tenderly and capably cared for Mr. Kerr until Mr. Kerr's death in 1942. Amandus continued to live in the Kerr home. His kindness and thoughtfulness in the Kerr home were greatly appreciated and will long be remembered. Amandus had a great love for the things of nature and for all little children. He became a Christian and joined the Renwick Baptist church in recent years. He maintained a genuine Christian witness until his death. He leaves to mourn his death his son, Gerald Nelson of Renwick five grandchildren, Mrs. Leo Lester (Beverly) of Goldfield, Bernard Nelson of Kanawha, Shirley, Earl, and Diane Nelson of Renwick. He also has two great grandchildren. Two sisters, Mrs. Walter Munger of South Greenfield, Mo., and Mrs. Ralph Block of Renwick. Two brothers, Nels A. Nelson of Wabasha, Minn., and Hans Nelson of Goldfield, other relatives and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and a baby sister. Burial was in the Glenwood Cemetery in Goldfield.
