Former Goldfield Resident Dies in Texas; Rites Held

GOLDFIELD, IA — Funeral services for Mrs. Jennie Umbarger Short, 86, a former Goldfield resident,
were held at the Methodist Church here on Tuesday afternoon with the Rev. J. Howard Machlan officiating. Mrs. Short was born in Melvin, Ill., on Jan. 25. 1869 and died at Amarillo, Tex. on Sept. 17, 1955. She was married to William H. Short on Jan. 16, 1889. To this union four children were born; Shirley J. Short and Mrs. Beulah May Short Pinkham preceded her in death. Mr. Short died in 1951. She is survived by one son, Delmer C. Short, Chicago. Ill., and a daughter, (Hazel) Mrs. C. A. Weaver of Amarillo, Tex.; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. The Short family resided in the Goldfield community from 1910 to 1937.
