August 19, 1911 --- August 15, 1980

Burdette James Middleton, son of Sam A. and Etta E. James Middleton, was born on August 19, 1911 at Eagle Grove, Iowa. He died at his home in Eagle Grove on Friday afternoon, August 15, 1980, at the age of 68 years, 11 months and 26 days.

He attended the Eagle Grove schools and graduated from the Eagle Grove High School with the Class of 1930. He received his Associate of Arts Degree from the Eagle Grove Junior College in 1932. On March 25, 1933, he was united in marriage with Dorothy Jean Hinkley at Eagle Grove. to this union were born two sons, James and John. For many years, Burdette was co-owner and operator, with his twin brother, Bruce, of the Maplewood Dairy in Eagle Grove, a business which was started by their father in 1895. Burdette retired in 1964. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, a Past Master of the Bower Masonic Lodge No. 464 A.F. & A.M.; the Royal Arch Masons, the Medina Council; Mr. Lebanon Commandery; El Kahir Shrine of Cedar Rapids; and the Eagle Chapter No. 114, Order of the Eastern Star in Eagle Grove.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; his children, James and his wife, Dianne Middleton of Eagle Grove; John and his wife, Marilyn Middleton of Eagle Grove; his grandson, Troy, of Eagle Grove; his twin brother, Bruce of Eagle Grove; his sister, Mrs. Lura Midland of Madison, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Dorothy and a brother, Roger.

Funeral services for Burdette J. Middleton were held on Monday afternoon, August 18, at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Eagle Grove. Dr. George W. Den Hartog, D. D. and Dr. Clarence Tomkins, D. D. of Fort Dodge officiated and burial was in the family lot at Rose Hill cemetery, Eagle Grove. A Masonic service was held on Sunday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Kastler-Babcock Funeral Home.
