Etta Eudora, daughter of George and Sarah Stanley James was born on a farm west of Renwick, January 27, 1878 and passed away at her home south of town Monday morning, August 18, at the age of 80 years 6 months, 23 days.
In 1893 her family moved to the present James farm west of town and it was here she spent her formative years learning the lessons of thrift, integrity, charity and good will which characterized her life in this community. On June 14, 1899 she was united in marriage with Samuel A. Middleton and her life since then has been spent in the home in which she passed away. Mrs. Middleton's life centered around her home and family, being a kind and loving wife, a devoted mother, and a staunch friend of all with whom she came in contact. A long time member of the Methodist church, she was interested in all its activities. She was a member of Class 16, the Troy Culture Club and the Eastern Star.
She was preceded in death by her husband and her parents, one sister and two brothers; Mrs. Adelle Brown, Wilbert and Charles James. Surviving are two brothers, Walter and Edward James, five children, Dorothy, Mrs. Wayne Middleton, Waterloo; Lura, Mrs. Leonard Midland, Madison, Wisconsin; and three sons, Roger, Bruce, and Burdette, all of Eagle Grove; five grandchildren and one nephew, Millard Brown, Glendale, California.
