Merle Floyd Allen, the son of Ira Ray and Hazel Marie (McOllough) Allen, was born May 29, 1938, in Clarion, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, graduating from Clarion High School. On March 3, 1958, Merle was united in marriage with Roberta Jean Ingertson at the Church of Christ in Clarion. The couple made their home in Eagle Grove and raised seven children. Merle worked a number of years as a mechanic for Bob Wood Chevrolet, Umthun Trucking and also for the Eagle Grove public schools as director of transportation for 10 years, retiring in 2003.

Merle passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2012, at his home, at the age of 74 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; six siblings: Evelyn Soren, Ransom Allen, Myrtle Hawkins, Leona Barnes, Ray Allen and Manson Allen and a granddaughter, Brooklyn Jill Stark. Survivors include his wife, Roberta Allen of Eagle Grove; children: Julie M. Stark and husband Timothy of Clarion, Debra J. Allen of Clarion, Bret F. Allen and wife Lorrie of Eagle Grove, Bradley Allen of Fort Dodge, Alicia R. Attig and husband Doug of Belmont, NC, Denita M. Donahue and husband Dave of Monticello, MN and Melinda K. Ogaard and husband Greg of Iowa Falls; 17 grandchildren: Clinton Stark, Dustin Stark, Megan Stiltz (James), Devon Allen, Brittany Allen, Brianna Allen, Brooke Allen, Brody Allen, Chadd Attig, Erica Attig, Alaina Donahue, Alissa Donahue, Alexia Donahue, Austin Donahue, Sarah Ogaard, Rachel Ogaard and Jackson Ogaard; eight great-grandchildren: Candice, Jacob, Alex, Dakota, Damian and Madison Stiltz, Paige Mcdaniel and Donavin Mcdaniel; siblings, Esther Johnson, Florence Staelens and Leo "Mac" Allen and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, August 11, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. at Evangelical Church in Eagle Grove with Pastor Jason Cooper officiating. Burial will be in the Evergreen Cemetery in Clarion. Memorials may be directed to Boys Town National Headquarters 200 Flanagan Boulevard PO Box 8000 Boys Town, NE.
