SHEFFIELD - Eva Leona Peyton, 90, of Sheffield died Sunday, July 1, 2012, at the Sheffield Care Center. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at First Grace Baptist Church in Sheffield with Pastor Ken Livingston officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Sheffield. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Retz Funeral Home in Sheffield is in charge of arrangements.

Eva was born Sept. 12, 1921, in Clarion to Ralph and Evelyn (Knight) Pletcher. She attended school there. On Sept. 16, 1939, she married Melvin Harrison Peyton in Clarion and worked over the years as a housewife. She and Melvin farmed in rural Dougherty and for many years she was a cook at the Sheffield Care Center. Eva and Melvin owned and operated Peyton's Place Grocery Store in Aredale for many years. Eva was a member of the Methodist Church in Aredale, Iowa. Survivors include her husband, Melvin Peyton of Sheffield; a daughter, Sharon Smit of Sheffield; a son, Mark Peyton of Arizona; a son-in-law, Alan (Pete) Marsh of Lincoln, Ill.; a daughter-in-law, Angie Peyton of Falmouth, Mass.; grandchildren, Debbie (Randy) Irmen of Fergus Falls, Minn., Jeff Peyton of Cape Cod, Mass., Terry (Penny) McCaslin of Sheffield, Kevin (Sara) McCaslin of Rockford, Leona (John) Hughes, Penny (Jeff) Bailey and Nicole (Mike) Stonecipher, all of Lincoln, Ill.; Vickie (Tony) French of Big Sandy, Tenn., Theresa (Randy) Spivey of Huntington, Tenn., Candace McCaslin of Texas and Amanda Peyton Davidson of Tulsa, Okla.; great-grandchildren, Victoria Link and Ryan Link, Cody Peyton, Genny McCaslin and JC (Jill) McCaslin, Kyle McCaslin (fiancée Cassie Willert) and Abby McCaslin, Chris McCaslin, Brianna McCaslin and Logan McCaslin, Loren and Landon French, Peyton and Levi Spivey; five great-great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Cleo Bosworth of Webster City and her twin, Evea Laurisch of Chicago, Ill.; and several sisters-in-laws. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Larry, in 1966; a daughter, Linda, in 2011; a son, Terrence in 2011; two grandsons, Timothy and Daniel McCaslin; a son-in-law, Dale Smit; a daughter-in-law, Tommie (Peyton) Forrest; five sisters; a brother; and several sisters- and brothers-in-law.
