Vernon Earl Subject was born February 15, 1939 in Clarion son of John and Beatrice (Thompson) Subject. Vern grew up in the Eagle Grove area and learned to cut hair at an early age. He obtained his barber license at the age of 16 and began working for Charlie Fox in Algona.

Vern was married to Debbi Parker on June 24, 1976 in Reno, Nevada. They lived in Oregon, Eagle Grove and Whittemore before moving to Algona in June, 2006. Vern operated Vern's Barber Shop in Algona up until the time of his recent illness.

Vern was a man of many surprises. He had a great sense of humor and he had many interests. He loved to be with family and he enjoyed playing pool and darts, remodeling homes, reading, and watching westerns.

Vernon E. Subject died Sunday, July 22, 2012 at Kossuth Regional Health Center at the age of 73. He is survived by his children, Tami Ellsworth of Spencer, Rusti (Sarah) Subject of Ankeny, Tifani Bradford of Swea City, and Robbi Subject of Algona; his grandchildren Tyne and Hunter Ellsworth, Landen and Caden Subject, and Dylan Bradford; and his mother-in-law, Betty Hilpipre-Huffaker of Eagle Grove; and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Debbi on March 4, 2009; and a brother, Hal Banks.
