Robert Leroy Farran, son of John and Charlotte Farran was born in Rowan, Iowa, on June 25, 1916. He died following a coronary occlusion at his home in Rochester, Minnesota, on May 29, 1965. Funeral services were held in the Congregational Church in Clarion, Iowa, on Tuesday, June 1, at two o'clock p.m. with burial in the Rowan Cemetery. Eyler Funeral home was in charge of arrangements. He is survived by his wife, Mary Elledge Farran of Coulter, whom he married on June 4, 1939, and three sons, Michael, Jeffrey and Patrick. Also four brothers, Duncan of Mason City, Iowa, Don of Washington, D. C., Douglas of Waverly, Iowa, and Daryl of Mason City, Iowa. One sister, Frances (Mrs. Russell Brandt) lives in Oelwein, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dale, formerly of Rowan. At the time of his death, he was employed as station agent for the Chicago Great Western Railway in Rochester. Minnesota. Before moving to Rochester in December, 1963, he had worked for the Great Western Railway for approximately thirty years having been assigned to Coulter, Hampton and Clarion, Iowa. He was an active member of the Order of Railroad Telegraphers. He was a member of the Congregational Church of Clarion where he served as choir member, head usher and as a deacon.
