Services Wednesday For Mrs. Malaise

Funeral services for Mrs. Mary S. Malaise, 87, well-known longtime Woolstock resident, were conducted Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Foster Funeral Home, Webster City. The Rev. Gordon Freeburg, pastor of the Woolstock and Vincent Methodist Churches officiated and burial was in French Cemetery, Woolstock. Mrs. Malaise was found dead Monday by a relative. According to Dr. G. B. Hogenson of Eagle Grove, Wright County deputy medical examiner, death was self inflicted by hanging and took place on Sunday between 9:15 and 3 p. m. The former Mary Mourlam, Mrs. Malaise was born in Alsace-Lorraine, France, and came with her parents to the United States and to Woolstock when she was 12. In 1898 she married Edmond Malaise. Except for one year at Peterson, Iowa, they farmed in the Woolstock community from the time of their marriage until Mr. Malaise's death in 1940. Mrs. Malaise continued to reside on the farm until 1945 when she moved into Woolstock. She is survived by five children, Charles and Emile, both of Woolstock, Clarence of Eagle Grove, Mrs. Nellie Hansen of Webster City and Mrs. Henry Evans of Blairsburg; 38 grandchildren and 44 great grandchildren. Also surviving is one brother, James Mourlam of Eagle Grove. Mrs. Malaise was a member of the French Lutheran Church, Woolstock.
