John Swenson was born in Morris, Ill., on Sept. 17, 1879. He was the third son of Louis and Amelia Swenson. He lived with his aunt, Mrs. Anna Olson, with whom he moved to Roland, Iowa, at the age of twelve. In 1898 he enlisted in the Spanish-American war, taking the oath in Co. "I" of the 52nd Iowa Infantry, at Boone, Iowa. On July 6, 1910, he was united in marriage to Myrtle E. Robinson, of Woolstock, Iowa. To this union were born five children, one of whom passed away in infancy. He leaves to mourn his death, his beloved wife, three sons, Robert, Louis and Sheldon, and one daughter, Iris, all of Albert Lea, Minn., his aged mother, of Kankakee, Ill., and three brothers, Glen of Aurora, Ill., Carl of Eagle Grove, Ia., and Andrew of Corwith, Iowa, all of whom attended his funeral. Mr. Swenson has been in ill health for the past four years, having been a patient at the U. S. Veterans Hospital at Minneapolis, Minn., where he passed away on April 2, 1932, at the age of 52 years, 6 months and 16 days. All who knew him, regarded him as a kind neighbor, friend, a loving husband and father. He made his peace with God and accepted Christ as his Saviour, and was baptized in the Catholic faith on March 28th, 1932. Funeral services were held in St. Theodore's Catholic church in Albert Lea, on April 7th, the Rev. Father Mulcahy officiating. A full military service was also rendered by the American Legion, Spanish War Veterans and Veterans of Foreign War posts of Albert Lea. Burial was in St. Theodore cemetery at Albert Lea. Those attending the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Glen Swenson of Aurora, Ill., Carl Swenson of Eagle Grove, Ia., Andrew Swenson of Corwith, Ia., Mrs. Anna Harlan of Iowa Falls, Ia., Mrs. Joe Robinson of Woolstock, Ia., Mrs. Sam Chesling and son, Irvin, of Fort Dodge, Ia., and Theo. Robinson, Eagle Grove, Ia.
