Ray Elhanan Roper, 76, of 4515 Graywood Ave., father of Mrs. Mary Lou Zehms, society editor of the Press-Telegram, died April 22. A native of Fort Dodge, Iowa, he lived for many years in Eagle Grove, Iowa, where he operated a hardware store. He was a member of the Congregational church and belonged to Bower Lodge 464, AF&AM and Fort Dodge Lodge 306 of Elks. He was a past president of the Eagle Grove Rotary Club. Surviving are his wife, Bertha; two sons, John E. Roper, Eagle Grove, and Robert E. Roper, San Diego, and Mrs. Zehms; son-in-law, Richard K. Zehms, sports editor of the Press-Telegram, and four grandsons. Masonic service will be Friday at 9 am in Mottell's Chapel. Interment will be private.
