Mrs. Nellie Subrod Dies at Farm Home Near Burlington

Mrs. Nellie Subrod, 77, for many years a resident of this community, died at 2:40 p. m. Tuesday at her farm home south of Burlington. Mrs. Subrod, whose maiden name was Nellie Lewis, was born May 25, 1862, in Shropshire, England. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jeremiah Lewis. She came to the United States with her parents in 1866, as a girl of 4 years. On their arrival in this country, Mr. and Mrs. Lewis settled in Burlington, but soon removed to Wright County, Iowa, where Mrs. Subrod spent her girlhood. She was married to Frank L. Subrod, May 3, 1882, in St. Francis-Xavier's church, Brighton. During their married life, Mr. and Mrs. Subrod were farmers, living always in the vicinity of Burlington. Forty-five years ago they took up their residence on the farm south of Burlington, which remained their home until Mr. Subrod's death in 1929. Mrs. Subrod continued to live there. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Albert Wiechert and Mrs. Fred Remer, Jr., Burlington and Frances at home; two sons, Ed Subrod, Burlington and Albert at home; two sisters, Mrs. Alice Keough, Webster City, Iowa, and Mrs. Barney Henderson, West Liberty, Iowa, a brother, E. J. Lewis, Eagle Grove, Iowa, and eight grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 9 a. m. Friday in St. Mary's church, with Rev. Edward Kersting officiating. Burial will be in the family lot in St. Mary's cemetery.
