November 24, 1884 --- April 7, 1973

Vernie Loveland Plumley, daughter of Franklin K. Loveland and Victoria (Melson) Loveland, was born near Dows, Iowa, November 24th, 1884. She graduated from the Dows high school in 1902 and attended the State Teachers College at Cedar Falls. She taught a country school for three years in Wright County, Iowa. April 4th, 1906, she was united in marriage with Jay A. Plumley at Dows. To this union were born five children.

She was preceded in death by her husband in 1953 and her eldest son, Leroy, in 1969. Surviving are her son, Jay of Newport Beach, Calif., three daughters, Mrs. June Hoffman of Belleville, Mrs. Lena San Romani of Fullerton, Calif., Mrs. Charlotte Gipson of El Toro, Calif., her sister Mrs. Lena Beck of Des Moines, Iowa and her brother, Irving Loveland, of Wallingford, Vermont, sixteen grandchildren and twenty-seven greatgrandchildren. After her marriage their first home was in Oklahoma City. They also lived in Checotah and Tulsa, Okla. In 1918 they moved to Arkansas City where most of their children attended school through Junior College. The Plumleys moved to Wichita in 1938 and lived there until Mr. Plumley's retirement. In 1953, they moved to Belleville and resided near or with their daughter, Mrs. June Hoffman. Mrs. Plumley was a member of the Methodist church, working in the Primary Department in Arkansas City and the Church Circles in Wichita. She was the pianist for the Friendship Sunday School Class in Belleville for more than fifteen years. She was a member of the Priscilla club many years.

Mrs. Plumley died Saturday, April 7, 1973 at the Republic County hospital, at the age of 88 years, 4 months and 14 days. Memorial services were held at Bachelor-Faulkner-Dart Chapel in Belleville, with burial at Riverview cemetery, Arkansas City, on April 11, 1973.
