PROMINENT WOMAN SUCCUMBS SUNDAY

Mrs. C. E. Dougherty, 63, a resident of Clarion for 27 years, died Sunday afternoon at the Lutheran hospital in fort Dodge after several months illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Clarion Congregational church, Rev. R. Lee Parcell officiating. Burial was in the Clarion Evergreen cemetery.

Mrs. Gertrude Dougherty was born January 11, 1893, in Ackley, the daughter of John and Rena deNeui. She was the second of four children born in this family. After completing high school in Ackley she attended Ellsworth college. Her formal education completed, she taught school for several years. On August 14, 1917, she was united in marriage to Charles Earl Dougherty. To this marriage were born three sons and a daughter, Loren, Dale, Russell, and Gerene. The couple moved to Iowa Falls in 1919 and in 1929 the family moved to Clarion.

In Clarion she was a charter member of the Navy Mothers club and a past commander of the organization, a member of Progress club, the American Legion Auxiliary, the Congregational Sisterhood, was a Sunday school teacher for a number years and a member of the First Congregational church of Clarion.

Her father preceded her in death. Surviving are her husband, Earl of Clarion; her mother, Mrs. Rena deNeui of Ackley; a brother, John deNeui of Waverly; two sisters, Mrs. Abbie Felhans of Ackley and Mrs. Minnie Bush of Vero Beach, Fla; three sons, A1c Loren F. Dougherty stationed at the Naval Air station in Sanford, Fla; Dale C. Dougherty of Clarion and Russell E. Dougherty of Belmond; one daughter, Mrs. Gerene Smith of Eagle Grove and nine grandchildren.
