July 4, 1892 --- August 28, 1968

Services were held Friday, August 30th 1968 at 2 p. m. In the Congregational Church in Clarion for Raymond Earl Duer, well-known Clarion businessman. Rev. Orlan Mitchell officiated. Mrs. Paul Loomls was the organist. Pallbearers were Stanley Shupe, Raymond Hagie, Allan Bisbey, Roger Sumners, Jay Lewis, all of Clarion, and Stanley Mccurry of Renwick. The Eyler Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in Clarion Evergreen Cemetery.

Ray Duer, 76, died suddenly of a heart attack Wednesday morning, August 28, 1968. He was with friends in the city Park when stricken. He had been in the grocery and meat business over 40 years prior to his retirement in 1961. Mr. Duer was born July 4th, 1892 in Belmond, Iowa, and moved to Clarion in 1900. After finishing High School in 1912 he attended Waterloo Business College. On June 12, 1917 he married Dorothy Olson of Joliet, Ill. The following September he entered the Army and served in France as a member of a machine gun battalion attached to the 88th Division. After discharge in 1919 he re-entered a business partnership with his father. During his many years in Clarion, Ray was an active member and Past Master of the Masonic Lodge, Past Noble Grand of I. O. O. F., charter member of American Legion, Past President of Rotary Club, and the Clarion School Board. He had served on the City Council and as a Deacon and Trustee of the First Congregational church. On June 12, 1967 he and his wife observed their golden wedding anniversary with open house at the Congregational church. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sister, Mrs. Jessie Webb of Detroit; daughter, Willa Marie Moore, Watsonville, Calif.; son, Claire, of Minneapolis; five grandchildren, many cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends.
