John L. Keller Jr. died peacefully Saturday, June 16th at home surrounded by his family. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 am, Wednesday, June 20th at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church [Iowa City, Iowa] with Father Michael Phillips officiating. Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery [Iowa City]. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4 to 7pm at Lensing Funeral & Cremation Service, Iowa City. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the VNA (Visiting Nurses Association) or to the Terry Trueblood Recreation Area c/o City of Iowa City.
John was born in Ft. Dodge Iowa to John L. (Jack) and Mildred Ramer Keller. His early years were spent in Eagle Grove and Fort Dodge. In 1951 the family moved to Iowa City where John was a graduate of Regina High School and the University of Iowa. John served in the US Army and in the Iowa National Guard. John married Linda Connell at St. Mary’s Church on June 15, 1968. John was a purchasing agent for the University of Iowa. He enjoyed retirement. John was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He enjoyed fishing, boating, barbecuing, bicycling, especially on RAGBRAI, and time spent on his amateur radio. John was an avid Hawkeye sports fan.
The family extends their appreciation to Dr. Paul Mulhausen and Diana with Iowa City Hospice. John is survived by loving wife of 44 years, Linda and their two daughters Kim (Ryan) Marsh of Oskaloosa and their children Connor and Katelyn and Katie (Alexander) Marquez of San Bernardino, CA and their children Sophia and Alexander Joseph; his mother Mildred R. Keller of Iowa City; his siblings, Suellen (John) Novotny of West Liberty and Timothy Keller of Iowa City. John was preceded in death by his father John L. “Jack” Keller, his infant sister Mary Alicia and his grandparents.
