ROLAND, IA — Funeral services for Mrs. Elma Wierson were held Oct. 31 at Erickson funeral home and Bergen Lutheran church with the Rev. Allen E. Nelson in charge. A solo "What a Friend We Have in Jesus" was sung by Esther Wierson accompanied by Mrs. Martin Moe at the funeral home. The triple trio of Bergen church sang "Old Rugged Cross" and "Peace I Leave With You," accompanied by Mrs. Otto J. Hanson, a the church. Pallbearers were Ernest Olson, Orville Olson. Ernest Wicks, Ward Wierson, Eugene Wierson and Clifford Wierson. Burial was in Roland cemetery.
Mrs. Elma Wierson, daughter of the late Ole and Julia Wicks, was born Oct. 13, 1892, in Cabery, Ill., and passed away at the Immanuel Lutheran hospital in Omaha Oct. 28 at the age of 62 years and 15 days. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. As a child she moved with her parents to Wright county. Jan. 21. 1925, she was married to Oscar Wierson. To this union were born two children, Mrs. Lee Pennell (LaVonne) of Omaha and Willard, at home. They lived on the Wierson homestead northeast of Roland until 1940 when they moved to the present farm. For the past two months she had been at the home of her daughter in Omaha. Mrs. Wierson was preceded in death by her husband and her parents. She is survived by her two children; three grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Eli Olson of Kanawha; and Mrs. Knutc Munson of Story City; three brothers, Cryder Wicks of Kanawha, Melvin Wicks of Lewistown, Mont., and Herman Wicks of Rogue River, Ore. Mrs. Wicks was active in Bergen Lutheran Ladies Aid and Circle. Relatives and friends attending the funeral were from Roland, McCallsburg, Story City, Scaring, Radcliffe, Clarion, Kanawha, Belmond, Des Moines, Jewell, Ames, Nevada, Perry, Toledo, Sheffield, Waterloo, Algona, Omaha, Nebraska and Minneapolis.
