Funeral Services Held for Aged Popejoy Man
Frank J. Smith Passed Away Last Thursday
Popejoy, Iowa, June 4. - Funeral services were held on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the Popejoy Methodist church in charge of the pastor, Rev. W. H. Parsons, for Frank J. Smith who passed away on Thursday morning at the Lutheran hospital in Hampton. Burial was in the Alden cemetery.
Frank J. Smith, son of Alvin J. and Elizabeth Smith, was born August 11, 1890 and departed this life on May 29, 1947, at the age of fifty-six years. Mr. Smith grew to manhood on his father's farm near Williams. On November 15, 1913 he was united in marriage to Velma Langeson. The young couple started life together in Lake City, Iowa where Frank worked in the carpenter trade. In the fall of 1914 he and his wife moved to a farm near Northwood, where they resided until 1920 when they moved to a farm in Oakland township and continued to farm until about four years ago when he began to fail in health. Since then he has been working for the De Kalb Seed Corn company. For years he served as township assessor. He was also an active member of the Farm Bureau and worked on the township AAA committee.
He is survived by his widow and two daughters, Mrs. Connie Brown, of Iowa Falls, Miss Lois Smith, at home, and one grandson, Larry Dean Brown, two brothers, George Smith of Oakland township and Earl Smith of Alden, and other relatives and a host of friends.
