NASHUA, IA - Jack Allan Knudsen, 76, of Nashua, died at home Friday, June 8. He was born July 28, 1935, in Fargo, N.D., son of C. Raymond "Ray" and Alice M. Carlson Knudsen. He married Jane Hubbard in November 1956, and they later divorced. He married Virjean Griffee in 1982. She died in 2004. He then married Penny Thacker in 2007. Mr. Knudsen graduated from high school in Thermopolis, Wyo., in 1953, and earned bachelor's degrees in zoology and education in 1958. He began his teaching career at Boone Valley School District, Renwick, in 1959. He earned a master's degree in elementary education in 1966 and was an elementary principal at Harlan Elementary School, Mount Pleasant. After moving to Nashua in 1967 he became the elementary principal for the next 10 years. He also coached both boys' and girls' high school golf teams and taught adult golf lessons. He moved to New Hampton and served as elementary principal from 1980 to 1985, when he retired

Survived by: his wife; two daughters, Betsy (Darwin) Engelbarts of Titonka and Jennifer Knudsen (Geraldo Perez) of New York City; four stepchildren, Todd (Jenny) Griffee of St. Joseph, Mo., Jill (Rich) Ross of Iowa City, Tanya (Jeff) Villhaur of North Liberty and Paula (Dustin) Wilcox of St. Louis; three grandchildren; and 11 stepgrandchildren. Preceded in death by: a brother, Richard.

Memorial service: 10:30 a.m. June 28 at United Methodist Church, where visitation begins at 9 a.m., with private family inurnment in Oakhill Cemetery, both in Nashua.
