BELMOND — Robert Haupt, 91, of Belmond died Monday, June 4, 2012, at the Belmond Medical Center. Funeral services for Robert Haupt were held at 1 p.m. Thursday, June 7, at the United Methodist Church in Belmond. Pastor Cindy Morrison officiated. Burial was at the Graceland Cemetery west of Rowan. Visitation for Robert Haupt was held from 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, at the Dugger Funeral Home, 111 Luick’s Lane South in Belmond, and continued one hour prior to services at the church.

Robert, the son of Frank and Katherine (Kate) Smith Haupt, was born July 22, 1920, on a farm between Rowan and Belmond. He grew up in that area where he attended country school. Robert, was united in marriage to Leona E. Bailey on Feb. 8, 1942, at the Methodist Parsonage in Rowan. The couple made their home on a farm north of Rowan. Robert farmed his entire working life. He retired in 1973 when he and Leona built a house and moved into Belmond. Robert is remembered for his meticulous care of his home, cars, yard and garden. A very active person his entire life, Bob will most be remembered for riding his bike on the bike trail into his late 80s. Robert was a member of the United Methodist Church in Belmond.

Robert is survived by his son, Verle and wife, Linda of Jewell; granddaughter, Sara and four great-grandchildren all of Ames; three sisters, Wilma Friesleben and husband Hartley of Clarion, Lorraine Johnson of Iowa Falls and Helen Ahrens of Rowan; two brothers, Raymond and wife Artherine of Dows and Duane and wife Darilyn of Dows; plus numerous other nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Leona; son, Norman; two sisters, Mildred and Minnie; and four brothers, Ed, Alvin, Bernard and Donnie; and a half-brother, Leo Smith.
