Rachel Elliott Felton Skinner was the wife of John Wesley Skinner. Their marriage was 20 January 1878 in Preble Co. Ohio. He brought his bride back to live in Wenona, Ill. Her father was Edward Felton (1816-1883). Her mother was Talitha Cumi Wright (1821-1899). After the husband's death, Rachel lived alone at her home in Varna (Marshall Co) Ill. until she moved to Goldfield, Iowa, to be near her son, Roland Skinner and wife, who cared for her until her passing.
She was a member of the Methodist Church at Varna, retaining her membership there after moving to Iowa. When a resident at Varna she was a regular attendant at public worship services as far as her health permitted. She was highly respected by her many friends who missed her friendliness, unassuming disposition and noble character.
The funeral service was conducted at the Varna Methodist Church (Marshall Co., Ill) with Rev. C. J. Jensen officiating. Burial took place in the family lot at Wenona. Pallbearers were A. R. Wright, Charles Antrim, Sherman Carlson, Oscar Olson, Albin Palm and Roy Brown.
Attending the funeral from a distance were her sons, Roland of Goldfield, Iowa and Arthur of Chicago; A. R. Wright of Chicago, and Mrs. Irene Antrim Hensler and her daughter, Dorothy of South Bend, Ind.
